Starfish Specialty Press, LLC publishes books and educational materials designed to address the complex learning needs of children and youth with Autism, Asperger Syndrome, and related developmental disabilities.

Our products target both the informational needs of caregivers, and provide direct educational support and materials to students.

Starfish Specialty Press, LLC is committed to publishing only materials of the highest quality, for in keeping with the spirit of our company motto, our aim is to make a meaningful and important difference in the lives of those whom we serve.

Making a Difference

The name of the company, and indeed its essence, come from the inspirational poem, The Starfish. Our mission is not unlike that of the old man in the poem who makes a difference – one starfish at a time. We strive to publish high-quality manuscripts on a variety of important topics that will enable our readers to do things that will make an important difference in the lives of those with special needs – one person at a time!

The Starfish

There was a young man walking down a deserted beach just before dawn. In the distance he saw a frail old man. As he approached the old man, he saw him picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea.

The young man gazed in wonder as the old man again and again threw the small starfish from the sand into the water. He asked, "Old man, why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?"

The old man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun.

"But there must be thousands of beaches and millions of starfish!" exclaimed the young man. "How can you make any difference?"

The old man looked down at the small starfish in his hand and as he threw it to the safety of the sea, he said, "I make a difference to this one."
