You too?! Common Stories from an Uncommon Parent
I have three brothers; one older and two younger. I don’t have any sisters, which was a source of dismay for me until I turned seven and realized that having a sister would mean sharing a bedroom and clothing! Although there are three years separating each of us, my brothers and I have been exceedingly close even into our adult years.
I have often wondered if my perspective regarding the impact of my sons’ autism on my extended family was the same as my brothers’ perspectives. Each of us views family dynamics from a unique vantage point created by our personal histories, emotions, and experiences. I wondered how my brothers viewed their nephews’ autism, so I recently asked each of them to share his thoughts with me. Their responses are shared below, with their permission, of course.
